Further Explanation on This Study
- This study uses the data visualizations and multinomial logistic regression.
- Data visualizations are used to provide a graphical representation of some insights from the dataset (Los Angeles crime data). For example, I used heat maps, bar charts, population pyramids, line charts, interactive dashboards, and more.
- Multinomial logistic regressions is a statistical method that helps us to understand how multiple factors (like age, gender, types of weapons, locations, and etc) relate to the likelihood of the certain crime occurrence (property crimes, crimes involving weapons, and etc).
- The probabilities utilized in “Who is Affected?” are calculated using multinomial logistic regression, providing the probability of each types of crime given the combination of the victim’s sex and demographic groups.
- R Studio on the Ohio SuperComputer server was used to create data visualizations and fit multinomial logistic regression models because of the size of the dataset.
